(Special Request) Butcher Babies – Goliath

20140425-174546.jpg I usually don’t think of, nor have I particularly favored them, female metal vocalists because there’s just not a whole lot of them known and respected. Sure there was/is Evanescence but I haven’t heard word of them in a very long time so they’ve long since dropped off my radar of music. But this viciously named band has blipped on my radar and I have read the readings loud and clear. And thank God it did too because I didn’t have any albums scheduled for today! I kept looking up albums and bands but couldn’t decide on anything, and when I did there was no way to listen to them. So when a follower on Twitter contacted me and requested that I do a review on this album, it saved my ass a bunch. Now enough talking shit and to the review!

As I said previously, I’ve never been big in female vocalists in heavy metal. Nothing personal it just sounds weird to me because I don’t think many of them have the voice synchronization that can go with and compliment what else is going on in the song. But surprisingly enough, this band pulled that off and exceeded. As the band name suggests, “Goliath” is an album that does not let up or hold back even when the first song hits 00:01. The guitars pound along and the drums do the same. But the real stand out to me was the ferocity of the singer’s lyrics and tone which just amazed me at how well she was able to keep up and match the brutality of the rest of her band. It was quite odd but at the same time pleasantly refreshing because the sound of this band and the vocalist creating a sound that I haven’t heard in a very long time if at all, and that’s fantastic. If a band is able to pull that off, then it is my belief that they will go far and beyond if they can keep it up and still sound good, of course.

Overall, a good album that has turned my head and will definitely peak my attention when I hear they release their second album. Oh, and did I mention this is their debut album? So that can only mean they’re just getting started. . .
