Being the 6th full studio album by Epica, this was set to be among if not their best yet. Their truly unique fusion of opera themes and (of course) heavy metal makes listening to them quite odd in a way because at one time you’re listening to opera or plain orchestra, and then you’re listening to a heavy track sung by a woman whose voice flows with all the notes, orchestra and metal alike, and converts them into something more. I’ve never been able to get into the full swing with Epica’s style of music, and sadly “The Quantum Enigma” didn’t shift my views or opinions. However, this album does show that the band is slowly but surely evolving and honing their musical talents and making them sound more appealing to people like me who don’t cannot quite get around to actually putting their music on our iPods, computers, etc. but who respect their efforts and can honestly say that we could get into them if they were to change their style just a little bit. But I’m not asking them to change their style and there’s a very simple reason for that : it’s not my band. It’s not my band so I won’t tell them how they should produce music that they enjoy. I shouldn’t have to tell them “this fucking sucks, do this instead” it shouldn’t ever happen because if it’s not your’s then you have no right or business poking your ass in it. Anyway, after that rant, let me just say that if you enjoy this music, good for you and you’ll really enjoy this album. If not, well, I tried to list the positives which is hard when you’re view is somewhat biased against them. If you are interested in at least listening to the album, the link to the full album is down below as always.
