Rat Neck (band)

20140514-202801.jpg Rat Neck has a raw feel and sound to it that not many bands are capable of pulling off while stilling being able to sound good. To my knowledge, the last band that was able to have this raw feeling while attracting throngs of fans was Rage Against the Machine. We can all agree that Rage had a very raw sound that stuck for many years and was still able to bring thousands of millions of people worldwide to buy their albums at every single release with the anticipation that that one will be as fantastic as the previous one, if not better. After taking a much closer look at Rat Neck’s music is definitely capable of replicating this same effect among the world if they could just spread their music further out into the world, then (in my imagination) they’d be set.

“Rohypnol” is only, sadly, a singe track EP that coincides with other single-track EPs pushed out by Rat Neck. The singles have sporadic guitars at times that can go from short, energetic bursts all the way to odd sounding notes that once again remind me slightly of Rage back in their early days. That sound I’m sure will ignite a fuse buried deep in the minds of long time Rage fans wanting to hear something new and yet similar, and it is my firm belief that this band will pull that off and gain throngs of people who can enjoy their music now and for years to come. As for the drummer and his skills, same thing. Much like Rage but different, has a nice sound, but could use some refinement. And the vocals have a raspy sound to them that I enjoyed upon a second, closer listening. That tone and style can have the potential to propel a band forward because the masses look at the front man of a band to determine how well the band is, that’s why they’re called the front man (or woman ) in the first place. And the fact that the vocals go along with the sporadic tune of the guitars and the style of the drums, Rat Neck can do so much if they could attract the attention of a big record company (like Epic or Roadrunner or even Nuclear Blast Records for examples) and compile together an EP with more tracks, or even a full-length album. If they can do that, they could go far, as I’ve said before.
