Prong – Ruining Lives

20140516-132754.jpg I started listening to this album previously being told that it was a thrash metal album. I love thrash metal. I think it’s great. But sadly, I didn’t think the majority of this album was thrash metal. It was definitely metal, don’t get me wrong, just not thrash with the exception of some songs. But that didn’t stop me from liking this album. It had many good moments that stood out as well done and quite heavy. These were really good moments in this album that just sounded right for what the band had been doing in the album before then. They were well done, polished and refined to be as good as they could be, and performed with obvious expertise in what the band was doing. The songs of “Ruining Lives” were heavy and made of the caliber that good bands create and can hopefully recreate. Their sound is one that actually crosses into the territories of several different metal genres, as many modern metal bands are wont to do now. Prong was able to (in my eyes) pull of crossing into the different genres quite nicely with being able to seamlessly bring them all together into an album that not only sounds good but is good. This band was able to pull off what many bands try but can’t do because they normally end up making their albums’ sound inconsistent and unattractive. Prong has done the opposite of that. They’ve made an album that has the potential to lead them to do better things and create more albums much like this, and if they create more albums like “Ruining Live”, then I’d be blown away and amazed.
