Byzanthian Neckbeard – From the Clutches of Oblivion

20140523-183016-66616361.jpg Well. . . I didn’t expect I’d be doing this review so soon. But hell, I am. Before I get things started I’d like to thank whoever manages Byzanthian Neckbeard’s Twitter messages and the band members themselves for giving me a free code so I could listen to a “pre-ordered” copy of “From the Clutches of Oblivion” for free. I appreciate it very much, especially with how soon they were able to give me the code and how smoothly the downloading went compared to other albums I’ve done. Now, onto the review you came here for.

Thankfully, the album was a good as I anticipated yesterday when I heard “Doppleganger”. When the full album downloaded, I listened to it again just to get back in the feel for the band’s style. But when the second track, “Indoctrinate the Priestess”, started playing, it was immediately better in my opinion. The track was heavy as the first, but it felt a lot more raw. The vocals were have an in-your-face feel to them and don’t rest up along with the harsh guitars and drums that keep up a constant, brutally unforgiving sound that is unique in many ways but yet familiar to those who’ve heard other bands similar to these guys before. The sound of this entire album in general is a lot like that and it’s amazing. The entire album has a raw feel to it that is just fantastic because you don’t hear many albums like this anymore. Especially in the form of a band’s first EP! You just don’t.

It is such a good thing to hear music like this from a virtually unknown band in a tiny, tiny country (Guernsey to be exactly. . . VERY tiny) because you can only imagine what a band like this could do with a full-length album after having years of experience and gathering tons of fans. I’d buy that shit. Hell, I’m buying this! And I got a free download too, so there’s virtually no reason for me to buy it, but I will because why not? It’s absolutely worth it. The music, the style, the songs themselves make buying this album worth it to no end. I encourage, implore, beg, urge you to go and get “From the Clutches of Oblivion” once you see it’s been released. You won’t be sorry. And on the off chance if you are sorry you bought it, well. . . you’re an idiot then because this is great stuff.
