Normally, I wouldn’t be doing this album for a review since it was released in July of last year because I like to keep most of my reviews fresh and new without having to go back into last year to find albums to review. But, I asked a friend belonging to the band Volharding (whom I did a review about also, go check them out) for some bands he think I should do reviews on, and one of them (there’s two others so these 3 reviews are from the courtesy of Volharding, thank you). So I decided to do the first one they suggested which was this – Lifecurse’s “Elysium”.
First off, holy shit. Second, damn. I needn’t say much else than that to sum up this album. “Elysium” is a viciously brutal heavy, progressive, metalcore, and melodic metal album that would make almost any devoted hardcore (and I mean HARDcore) metal fan will enjoy to the very last second, and then replay it. The vocals are deep and guttural so it gives the album an edge to it that just assaults your ears without ceasing until the end of the track in which the next will continue on the offensive just as the previous one did. They also go from being deep to a much softer tone that sounds more pleasant to your ear drums but still keeps up the tempo and goes well with keeping the style and momentum of the song going without pause. Now, many people don’t like it when the vocals do that but all I have to say to them is this : get the fuck over it.
The guitars and drums also melt together to form a cohesive sort of relationship that consists of them cooperating to create sounds and have a style that is marvelous and amazing whenever they’re played together. Even by themselves, those instruments and the people who play them are able to easily hold their ground in keeping up the pace and the brutality of the song so far. They make great sounds that can make any metal fan head bang until their necks fall off. Yes, until their necks fall off.
And as a side note, in the track “Hadean” where one moment it is the usual vocals but then it cuts to a singular guy that says, “You make The Lord. . . very nervous.” That to me was just hilarious, I could not stop laughing. You may not feel the same and all I can say is that I’m not sorry. It was also a good track as a whole as was “Elysium” that is now among my favorites of metalcore. Also (conveniently enough) the lead singer is also the vocals for Volharding, so go check them out also if you like Lifecurse. It’ll be worth your time.
