Godflesh – Decline & Fall EP

20140601-141434-51274025.jpg I’ve never particularly loved Godflesh, but I do appreciate and sometimes enjoy their music. Everything changes though. Godflesh has plans to release a new album (don’t ask me for the name, I don’t remember) later this fall, and that can possibly be the album that’ll make me love Godflesh as a whole. But for now, we only have their 13-year reunion EP “Decline & Fall”. I was hoping to do this review earlier this week, but the Internet is a stubborn bitch sometimes and I could only listen to the first track until the EP’s release date (today).

Right off the top of my head, I can’t remember what a lot of Godflesh’s musical style is/was. “Decline & Fall” though was a slow, methodical album that is heavy, but I can imagine that many fans of bands like, for example, Pantera and maybe even Hellyeah can enjoy a lot without having to worry about the style and quality straying far from their favorite bands (if those band were or were like Pantera and/or Hellyeah). The vocals are more like Pantera’s because to me they sort of have that groggy sound to it that sounds really good with the guitars and drums that are raw and lash out whenever they can. Most of the time, however, the guitars keep a slow and steady tone that may seem boring and bland to some people, but to others it’s a great sound that will get their feet tapping to the beat in no time.

I cannot wait to hear Godflesh’s full-length album whenever it gets released this fall. When it does, me and the life-long loyal fans of the bands will go to the music stores of their towns and buy the album and eagerly taking it home and basking in every single second they’re listening to it. It will be great, I can tell.
