Vileborn – Vileated EP

20140604-181556-65756580.jpg Alternative metal has always been a bittersweet sub-genre for me. It’s had a lot of good moments, but also a lot of bad ones. So whenever I know a band is considered alternative metal I always go in prepared for anything and everything. Never know what you’re gonna get. But thankfully, Vileborn wasn’t one of those bad moments.

I was contacted over Twitter to review this album by a very nice and friendly lady who shared my interest for metal and gave me a band that consists of what I like in a band. And she works with them so there’s that too. But anyway, “Vileated” was was good, short EP that had everything a metal band needs to be successful : quality vocals, fast paced guitars and drums that go well together, lyrics that aren’t bullshit, and most importantly… vocals that can take their tone all over the board. The Vileborn didn’t do this, but I’m sure he could be able to do the low, guttural voice that a lot of bands have like Amon Amarth or Feared. But the vocals ranged from normal voice to a strained, tight tone (You’ll know what I mean if you listen to the EP) that sounds really good alongside the guitars and drums. The guitars are also what you would expect from a good metal band with them being able to go from chorus rhythm to badass solo in a heartbeat without stutter. The drums do a great job of keeping a beat that can make someone head-bang slightly to the noise of the constant pounding and wildness (I guess that’s a word) of the beat. Overall, “Vileated” was a good EP that is a promising sign for more good music to come from Vileborn in the near future.
