In the email that came with the private link to We Are the Catalyst’s upcoming album “Monuments” also came quotes from respected and know metal magazines and Terry Nails (ex Ozzy Osbourne). These quotes gave me an idea what to expect, obviously, but there was one that made me particularly excited. Terry Nails’ of all the quotes, believe it or not. “Simply stunning, more over than Evanescence”. Well I’ve never really liked Evanescence so I thought this be a big fucking slam dunk for me. And I was right. The unreleased album is really well done in that it is well-rounded with good vocals, guitars, drums, overall sound, and tone. I suppose the reason Terry Nails compared WATC to Evanescence because both have female vocalists. While the ones from Evanescence never sounded good to me, the vocals from “Monuments” have a better sound to them in my opinion. I think they go better with the rest of the band compared to Evanescence and they have a better tone throughout the album that keeps up without stutter. The guitars are heavy and rhythmic all through “Monuments” to the point that I cannot decide if they’re more under the category of melodic metal or groove metal (I’m sure someone will be able to but I can’t). They have a great sound and go very well with the drums that have a constant presence and beat the entire album that will give people to tap their feet along to so they can become more in sync with this album. The tone through this is another thing that I cannot quite place (and it irritates me that I can’t) but it’s always present in “Monuments” and never lets you go anywhere in it without being able to hear it whether it be clear as day or very subtle. “Monuments” is a good album that I’ve no doubt will turn some heads around the world and have people go “nice shit. . .” without a doubt. I’m sure I’ll be buying a few tracks from this that I liked more than others. It is expected for release on October 1 of this year, but anything can change (not saying something will change). So keep your damned eyes peeled. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
