Sometimes when metal bands fuse their music with techno. . . it can have different outcomes. A good example would be Korn’s “Path of Totality” which wasn’t exactly good in many peoples’ eyes (including mine) except for maybe one or two tracks (for me those were “Narcissistic Cannibal” and “Get Up!”). And sometimes it comes out really good (can’t give you an honest example because I don’t really listen to this mix much). Other times it meets me right in the middle like “Phenomena” by Within The Ruins did for me. I didn’t hate the combo, but I did particularly have any love for it either. The metal was good, though, in all meanings of the word “good”. It had some really good sounding moments along with the vocals that went along with them in their own deep voice and lyrics that ground along with the sound of the guitars. The drums had a nice steady beat throughout “Phenomena” that gave the album a constant pace that sounded good the whole time. Overall, the album was okay but it didn’t sound amazing to me. I’ve no doubt it’ll sound great to other people out there, but not me sadly. I do encourage you to give “Phenomena” a try for yourself, though.
