With “Imperialist” being Cries of the Captive’s debut EP I imagined that the album wouldn’t be much and they it could use improvements. I was half right, and that implies that I was also half wrong. I was right because the band could use a few minor improvements and I was wrong because the album was definitely something and not an album to be taken lightly especially as a debut. “Imperialist” was certainly a raw album and probably the most raw that I’ve heard since Wretched’s “Cannibal”. Everything was loud and absolutely hardcore with unrelenting pace and speed. Anyone who can understand the lyrics after hearing them once is magical because I will never be able to understand them without the lyrics in front of me. But they sound totally brutal and that makes them sound amazing to anyone who can tolerate them like me. The guitars and drums have a vicious rhythm and beat the entire EP and that makes the album sound all the more raw because the beat doesn’t stay the same instead it constantly changes and that keeps up the momentum. “Imperialist” doesn’t release until September 9th (America at least) but you can listen to the single “Solipsism” on YouTube where the social media links for the band and the record company are in the description. Go check it out if you like some deathcore.
