Lelahell – Al Insane... The (Re)Birth Of Abderrahmane

First off, let’s just call this album “Al Insane” for short. Second, I didn’t even know Algeria had any metal bands. I guess you really do learn something new everyday. Now this is also a death metal album, and a good death metal album at that. “Al Insane” does a really good job at having an overwhelming sense of hatred and anger that comes across very easily and stays in each tracks which gives the whole album a feel of pure rage that’s always there 100% of the time. The vocals have a harsh and extremely brutal sound to them … Continue reading Lelahell – Al Insane... The (Re)Birth Of Abderrahmane

Old Wounds – Death Projection EP

As you can probably tell from that cover, this is one raw piece of work. Old Wounds’ new EP “Death Projection” is just that as it brings something new to the table for Old Wounds as the drummer, Brandon Gallagher, tells Alternative Press, “‘We wrote this EP in January and February between our tours with Raindance and our full US with Hollow Earth,” says Gallagher. “It’s definitely more metal influenced then any of our other material, and we all think it’s our best. Consider it as a teaser of the direction we’re going to be headed for the next LP.’” … Continue reading Old Wounds – Death Projection EP

Gust (self titled)

I never want to hear the words “Sweden doesn’t make good metal” because that is bullshit on a scale of unimaginable proportions. Amon Amarth is one great example, and now another has come upon my radar. Gust’s self titled album, while short, has all-round amazing tracks that are hardcore and are the embodiment of the heavier of metal today if I to choose a band that isn’t well known. And that’s sad because Gust is one of those bands that deserves to be more well known along with other amazing bands like A Breach of Silence, Hate Division, and Gentrification (all of … Continue reading Gust (self titled)

Xerath – III

“III” was released yesterday and it’s as amazing as I thought it was going to be. It had amazing sound with the guitars, vocals, and drums all having badass tone and sound all throughout this album and that makes it fucking great. Xerath reincorporates the use of atmospheric sounds that they used in their single “I Hold Dominion” to make the songs that they’re used in sound all the more epic and fantastic. I really wish many more people would know of this band because Xerath is one of those groups that have somehow gone undetected among the greater part of the … Continue reading Xerath – III

Cannibal Corpse – A Skeletal Domain

I’m just going to skip all the bullshit I usually say and get right to the chase. “A Skeletal Domain” is fucking amazing. That’s it. No other way to put it, say it, and no way to convince me otherwise. Cannibal Corpse have done it before and they have done it again. And this time with another brutally raw album that has very aggressive everything. From the get-go “A Skeletal Domain” has the very essence of hatred and blind fury in its sound that all the hardcore fans of this band and this music will no doubt enjoy as many already have. … Continue reading Cannibal Corpse – A Skeletal Domain

Wild Rose – Hit ‘N’ Run

I’ve never imagined what a mixture of Bon Jovi and Journey would sound like, but now I don’t have to because Wild Rose has done that with their upcoming third album “Hit ‘N’ Run”. Now keep in mind that while I’m not real big into this type of rock I do not mind it in the least. I’m one of those people that can easily listen to “Bad Medicine” and “Don’t Stop Believing” in a heart beat, but not very often. “Hit ‘N’ Run” incorporated many elements that (for lack of better examples) Bon Jovi and Journey used to become … Continue reading Wild Rose – Hit ‘N’ Run

Xerath – I Hold Dominion (single)

I’ve never heard of Xerath before and I really wish I have. Apparently their new album “III” releases this Tuesday on their Bandcamp page and I cannot wait judging by their single “I Hold Dominion”. It has amazing sound to it. With the use of the atmospheric sounds that are used much more heavily by “epic” metal bands, Xerath made it not so dominate but made it a sort of background noise much like what Alestorm did in their debut “Captain Morgan’s Revenge” where it was utilized to the point that it made the songs more epic when mixed with the guitars and vocals. … Continue reading Xerath – I Hold Dominion (single)

Sarvas (self-titled)

I’m telling you Finland is the world center for anything and everything metal! If I ever get the chance to visit there, I’m fucking going. Anyway, Sarvas’ self-titled debut album is another one to add to the ranks of good Finnish metal. While I’m just going to classify this as metal, the drummer, Jani-Sebastian Aalto, had this to say about the style of this album: “Sarvas is a 5-piece Metal band mixing genres like Sludge, Groove, Stoner and Doom into a unique, raw entity of massive auditory goo that combines the crunchy, traditional sound with some more modern, technical elements. Rather than … Continue reading Sarvas (self-titled)

Stray (sthlm) – Overnaut

Please do not ask me what the “(sthlm)” stands for because I’ve no idea in the slightest. So for today let’s just call this band Stray. Makes things easier for me and you. But anyway, Stray’s latest EP “Overnaut” is a nice piece of grunge rock and a little metal influence. There’s not a whole lot of metal going on in “Overnaut” but there’s enough for it to be a noticeable factor. The rest of it however is definitely grunge. And good grunge to say in the least. The sounds of the guitars have a real edgy sound to them that will … Continue reading Stray (sthlm) – Overnaut

Hangmore – Freak In Me (single)

Okay, I lied. Technically this isn’t a “single” since it contains more than one song, but it’s not an EP or LP. So let’s just call this a single for lack of a better word. Anyway, the two songs from this. “Freak In Me” and “We Rise”, are actually quite good. I personally prefer “Freak In Me” myself but that’s just because I like the chorus better than the one from “We Rise”. The vocals from each have a really good sound to them along with the guitars that are somewhat heavy, but the vocalist really balances them out by … Continue reading Hangmore – Freak In Me (single)
