Alright, listen. I know metal. He knows metal. She knows metal. We all know metal. And whenever a good metal album comes along, we either jump on it like ravenous dogs on some meat, or it goes totally under our radars only to be discovered years later. No in between, sadly, just the two opposites of the same coin. In this case, WRTX and their album “A Message Left Behind” is one of those unfortunate albums that are jock full with awesome metal moments but were left behind (no pun intended) to be picked up again by inquisitive people such as us. And also reviewers but that’s different. “A Message Left Behind” is an album that is the literal embodiment to what heavy means in heavy metal. This is probably what people who don’t listen to metal on a regular basis think of immediately for any kind of metal music. And that’s not a bad thing because this is good metal by far. So if people who don’t listen to our music and think this are like all of our music, then I’ll proudly accept that because WRTX has created an album that I’m confident can represent modern heavy metal firmly on its own for a while. “A Message Left Behind” has the deep vocals that many millions of metal fans, including myself, have come to love and listen to each and every day because of how badass they sound every time. The guitars also have an absolutely devil of a sound in that they are as heavy as all hell which gives me metal goers like me who enjoy the sound of guitars that you can head bang to all day long for however long they keep going. Even though the album cover may be a little bit too . . . flamboyant for to some people and their liking (could be a hell of a lot worse), it does sort of have that metal feel to it with the unique cover art that gives off that subtle vibe that says the album is good but you would not have the slightest idea the album is fucking amazing until you listen to the first song and get hooked to the point where you feel compelled to listen to the album in its entirety. That’s what “A Message Left Behind” is to me. The entire album back to front has one of the most amazing sounds I’ve heard in a relatively unknown metal band to the point where I want to walk up to every major metal label and annoy them until they listen to the album and sign WRTX because that’s the level they’re put themselves up to. “A Message Left Behind” is a fantastic album that I highly recommend to anyone who wants an album familiar and yet fresh both at the same damn time.
