This is one of those album where the entire time is filled with 100% genuine rage that just goes on and on to the point where you know for a fact that if you were where this was being played live then there would be a mosh pit that formed instantly just because of how hardcore and brutal Crows is. And each a every song from “Better Off Dead” is jammed into comfortable times of less than 3 minutes and 30 seconds for all the songs, and under 3 minutes for most of the songs (only two go past 3 minutes). But then the final track, “Death Crownado”, goes way away from that length and decides to practically say on its own, “No, fuck that short shit!” because it ended up being over 9 minutes long. That was a really good 9 minutes too, not real easy for any band ever to pull off under any circumstances. Throughout all of “Better Off Dead” there is an ever present raw brutality that doesn’t go away no matter what and that’s what makes this album so good. A lot of bands out there lack the sheer rawness (that’s a word) that Crows has and that’s simply because I don’t think some bands out there have the balls to do it or they just don’t want to. Probably the latter, but the first is still valid even though I don’t consider any band out there pussies or anything of the sort. Anyway, if you haven’t already been able to tell – “Better Off Dead” is probably the mosh pit album that will most likely stay that way in my book for a while to come and with good reason.
