Pineal’s new EP “Smiling Cult” is (to me) a combination of Tool and some Alice in Chains (both of which are influences for the band) and then what I felt like the vocals for Black Sabbath. I’m not sure why about the Black Sabbath part but I just can’t not find those two similar no matter what I do. Anyway, “Smiling Cult” is a progressive rock/post metal album that isn’t something that I have and most likely won’t listen to every day, but it is definitely a piece that was interesting just because of all the different sounds that it brought to the table for me. The pace wasn’t slow, but it was slow to me for someone who listens to the fast paced metal just about every hour of every day. While “Smiling Cult” isn’t what I’d listen to every day like I said, I imagine that many people would really like this album because the vocals are solid and leave a good impression, the guitars have a nice rhythm and beat along with the drums that have that great tap-tap-tap sound the whole album. And overall this album is a good one when looking at it from a completely unbiased view because of all the good aspects that Pineal have been able to incorporate into the it and then pull it off which is always a good sign for any band anywhere.
