Carcass – Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel

Carcass have returned with their latest EP which I personally found really, really enjoyable. “Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel” is an EP that is on the “calmer” end of death metal with that they don’t have the same deep, guttural vocals of bands like Cannibal Corpse, and doesn’t have the ultra fast pace of thrash metal. But it’s just the absolute perfect balance to me because I like both of those subgenres and just an album that has taken some of their unique takes on the genres is fucking awesome to me because I could listen to this stuff all day long. This album is raw, fast, and brutal for those of you not used to the truly hardcore death metal out there in the world. The defining track of this album (for me) is “Livestock Marketplace” by far because it has fast moments, slowish moments, vocals with screams that are raw all the way through and the rhythm of everything is just done so fucking well it’s hard to explain without making me sound more stupid. And even though the EP totals at around 17 minutes and with 5 tracks, “Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel” is a fantastic thing to behold especially if you want two different genres and have them sound great.
