I’m going to try so much and not say the words “Linkin Park” in this because this album reviewed me so goddamn much of them. “The Mindsweep” isn’t exactly your typical metal band if your going for heaviness. Now if you know who Enter Shikari is then you know exactly what I’m talking about, but if you haven’t then you probably saw “Linkin Park” (I failed you, I’m not sorry) and either thought “Oh fuck”, “oh yes!”, or just simply “oh”. Well in my case since I was going in relatively blind about this band so it was just “oh”. But with me being able to listen to just about anything with a good beat and sound, I found this album to not be weird in any way for me except that I haven’t heard this mixture of hip-hop and several elements of metal like the vocals. Now this is more metal oriented to me so some of you metal purists who are probably thinking that the hip-hop is shitting all over the metal are wrong because the only really heavy handed influences that the hip-hop has is the rhythmic style is more or less the same and electronic effects are thrown into the mix for a solid kick. The longest song is only 6 and a half minutes so no need to worry about over-extended songs. The overall quality of “The Mindsweep” is staggering to me because I used to turn to Linkin Park’s “Hybrid Theory” as a lot of us did for something like this but from now on I’m going to turn to Enter Shikari simply because I think it’s more refined and well done in terms of tuning, sound, all that shit that’s good and proper. And I’ve got to give credit to my friends who asked me to do this album because I never would’ve listened to this and would’ve gone my whole life saying “Ah, they’re just some fuckin’ band that’s unimportant”. So thankfully that didn’t become a thing because this is a truly good album performed by a unique band who I’ve no doubt in my mind has plenty of tricks up their sleeves that they’ll bust out on future albums.
