Typically when a popular band comes back from an lengthy hiatus there is much anticipation about the album that they’ll put out whenever they return. For lack of a better example, the best example of this in recent years is Slipknot’s “.5: The Gray Chapter”. If post/progressive metal band Minsk hasn’t made a masterpiece yet than they have with their upcoming “The Crash and the Draw” because this album is everything you could ever want and more. Right from the very beginning it has a great feel to it that’s very much like doom metal but it’s different in a way that I cannot explain because of how unique it is. It’s heavy in every sense of the word from start to finish. Also the fact that Minsk dared to make an album with several songs being unconventionally long for their genre, they still sound amazing because of how masterfully they’re performed. Some of the tracks also have much quieter and calmer pace to them that are hypnotic to say in the absolute least since they follow up heavy and intense songs, so the change that they show is amazingly good. The shifts in pace that are all throughout “The Crash and the Draw” are something that literally kept the headphones stuck to my head since I couldn’t taken them off because the music was so . . . entrancing that I never even thought to stop listening. This whole album is the result of a great band coming back together after years of being apart and showing that they still have the touch, they still got the talent, and they can become the absolute best of their genre. “The Crash and the Draw” is without a doubt one of the best albums of at least the first half of 2015, and I’m confident enough to say that this is one of the best albums of the entire year. This is truly something that has to be seen to be believed.
