I consider myself to be a jaded person when it comes to the many different styles of metal that are out there in this world. I find a tone of enjoyment out of the fast and the extreme, but I also find myself bathing in the rich wonder that bands who take a slower approach to things create. True Widow are the latest of the latter to amaze me, and their upcoming album is by no means something to scoff at.

“AVVOLGERE” is a very interesting mind bender of an album to say in the very least. All ten tracks off it are filled with so much pizzazz (for a what seems to be primarily doom album) that they really manage to entice you in a way that many a band of this variety aren’t really able to do, yet here True Widow have proven they can definitely impress. What’s possibly my favorite part of the record is how much of a classic feel “AVVOLGERE”, yet it still sounds very modern to it in terms of the mixing and mastering that went into the final product, but somehow a classic essence still managed to work its way through, and that is nowhere near a bad thing if you ask me. And as if the album wasn’t already magnificent enough to begin with, True Widow even showcases a set of vocals done by both a man and a woman who both bring a fabulous contrast, the woman in particular, that add yet another delicious layer to the mix that was already outstanding to begin with. With a mysterious cover art to match, “AVVOLGERE” is a simply weird album that you’d want to zone out to as well as jam the fuck out to because of its excellent combination of riffs and ominous atmospheres that are forged within the ten tracks, and that’s something not many bands can do.

True Widow has been around for not very long but long enough, but this is the first time that they actually really grasped my attention and pulled me straight into the world that they created with their music, and I’ve no qualms about being dragged into it whatsoever. “AVVOLGERE” is a powerful record that simply cannot be ignored, and I’d try to make it sound more epic than that but there’s simply nothing else I can say about this impressive piece.
