There’s a certain necessity for a darker realm to be linked to those of us who want more out of our metal, and there are definitely bands out there that can deliver and satisfy such a need. However, it’s a difficult art that’s not easy to create by any means, yet there are souls who wander the dark to produce records that are soaking with the abyss to where you can practically taste it. One such group is Jupiterian who’s been collecting their respective pieces of darkness to create their debut full-length album, and what a slab of the ever-lasting black it is!

If you can’t tell from the mystical magic of that impeccable cover art, the magnificence that Jupiterian has created here cannot be comprehended by mere mortals and takes not one but several listens in order to get but an inkling of what these Brazilians have crafted. To put the occult style of Jupiterian into words for us mortals it’s an atmospheric and very dark take on what the combination of doom and sludge metal to form something that’s a sheer void, and it couldn’t be any more tantalizing of an album! These six tracks that make up the terrific opus of “Terraforming” is the kind of shit that the gods of everything themselves would cringe at for it is so insidious and monstrous, yet for those of us attuned to the void eat it up like it’s fucking homemade ice cream. Not only does Jupiterian bring us to a plane between the dark and reality itself, but they bring a magnificently tasteful heaviness that truly pulls you further into “Terraforming” where many bands would get themselves lost in trying to keep the haunting atmosphere going or what have you. Instead, Jupiterian brings everything together seemingly effortless to bring forth an amazingly fluid experience as you’re constantly swapped from one bleak swamp from hell to another seamlessly to create a haunting trip that’s all but all-consuming. From start to finish, “Terraforming” does nothing but impress as it takes your consciousness through a glorious black hole that simply keeps on going even beyond the end of eternity, and it’s quite the sight to behold.

Jupiterian is one of those bands that seems like an amalgamation of so many other styles and other groups out in the world that it seems impossible to ever bring together for a cohesive album that one can truly sink their teeth into, yet here it is! This is such a cosmic force that’s so dark and evil that it’s still hard for me to fully grasp despite soaking myself in its content for hours, and it always satisfies to the very end! Of all the doom releases that we’ve seen this year, “Terraforming” is without a doubt one of the most sinister, delicious, and fucking masterful records that we’ve gotten!
