A band that has the capacity and will to do seemingly nothing except create one smashing album after another whilst almost always on tour earns a bit of reprieve after a while, correct? I feel that’s a given if a band does all that as rest is a true rarity after a while, and although The Black Dahlia Murder has more than earned a bit of downtime after all that they’ve done they’re still nowhere near done. Eight albums can be when a band starts to decline, but that’s far from the case with this band and their upcoming piece of “Nightbringers”.
You’d expect a band that has been going for sixteen years to simply learn more as they continue going and just keep getting better, no? Thankfully, one of the many bands that adhere to such a glorious notion is obviously The Black Dahlia Murder and many felt that after the massive success of their last album that it marked the peak of what this band was capable of. I’m not one to say what this band can do, but if one thing is certain it’s that TBDM is far from sitting down as “Nightbringers” is everything that’s so great about this band manifest into a 33-minute opus of organized chaos. This is simply the kind of record that doesn’t have a single filler track as each and every single piece that makes up “Nightbringers” can all stand on their own as singles to create a maddening sound that crushes your bones and pummels your mind in an instant. We’re granted visions of a speedy death whilst TBDM does exactly what they’ve been doing for sixteen long years as they shred their way into our hearts, and there lies my only issue with the record: it just sounds the same to me. However, I’ve always found TBDM incredibly tasteful and a well-crafted act no matter the album, and “Nightbringers” only further solidifies that all the way to where that “issue” is rendered null and void when I hit play. Regardless of how I feel about the trend of the band’s sound, there’s no denying that “Nightbringers” is another blistering album that takes no prisoners for any of these 33 minutes of pure maddening death.
At this point, it feels as though The Black Dahlia Murder can’t do much wrong when it comes to laying down new music for us pedestrians who’ve no choice but to inhale whatever they dish out for us to enjoy. Understandably, there are people who will not enjoy this record and that just baffles my mind because even though “Nightbringers” isn’t the best melo-death record that I’ve heard it still fucking rocks all the fucking way with no exceptions in between! For a while this has been one of the more “must hear” records with the year slowly coming to an end, and it goes without saying that The Black Dahlia Murder once again lives up to their legendary reputation!
