Blaze of Perdition – Conscious Darkness

There is a near unlimited amount of black metal acts that are continuously spawning from nowhere, and with an evergrowing number comes an unlimited amount of potentially terrific bands to make their marks on the scene. The underground of black metal has always had bands teeming with excellence for years, and randomly coming across one always feels like the result of a great treasure hunt. That’s how I felt went I came across Blaze of Perdition’s latest record; a true representation of what the underground of black metal looks and feels like as a whole.

It takes more than to simply have a slightly entertaining raw power and a vicious energy to satisfy as a black metal band because you really gotta have a special finesse that helps the band in question stand out to attract a specific crowd, or pull off tropes incredibly well to cater to longtime fans of the genre. In the case of Blaze of Perdition, it’s a little bit of both for “Conscious Darkness”. These Polish gentlemen bring forth a take on black metal that’s not only savage in its execution but have an odd sense of retrospective that is befitting for black metal as a whole given how its bleak outlook and monstrous demonstration feels all but natural within “Conscious Darkness”. Although having a near-death experience will do that to you, I suppose, and Blaze of Perdition really knows how to take such a harrowing experience and bring forth so many of those emotions to jam pack them into one record that packs a real punch. Combine all that with four, grueling tracks that all clock in eight to fifteen minutes long then you’re granted a fiery tale that doesn’t hold a single thing back and one that brings the black flame of black metal to a true blaze to make “Conscious Darkness” a tremendous record that fucking knows how to pull off modern black metal with utmost style. And that allows Blaze of Perdition to really shine and show the world that they mean fucking business!

Creating quality black metal can be something that you can just be incredibly lazy about depending on how you approach it, and luckily we’re given a plethora of bands that take their craft very seriously. Therefore, we’re granted serious record like “Conscious Darkness” that allow the underground to thrive like it always has been. Blaze of Perdition is a new act relatively but given time these guys can really expand and show throngs of black metal accolades that they’re a force to be heard.
