The experimentation of an artist can lead to tremendous things for several different projects that one person may take unto themselves in order to create different soundscapes executed in different ways. That’s by no means a rare thing in today’s world, and the young Italian artist known as Gabriele Gramaglia is no stranger to multiple projects as he transitions from his newest act of Summit to his oldest of The Clearing Path. This return has led to something that’s all but massive for both The Clearing Path and Gramaglia overall.

Whereas Summit truly felt like you’re drifting throw the very ebb and flow of multiverse, The Clearing Path truly doesn’t waste time nor leaves any cosmic stone unturned. Continuing the metaphysical that he started with his previous effort for The Clearing Path, “Watershed Between Firmament And The Realm of Hyperborea” is exactly the kind of transcendent black metal that many people will find themselves immersed in from the first echoing riffs to the dissonant sound of the quieting ambiance. The Clearing Path showcases a spectacular dynamic increase from his last album as “Watershed Between Firmament” is increasingly complex as we’re treated to hellish guitarwork and an otherworldly image that is all but incredibly detailed. These four tracks come together to create a brilliantly vibrant depiction of a colorful plane of existence that’s spread throughout the multiverse that The Clearing Path easily traverses across this album, and manages to bring it all together wondrously well to create a sound that’s not only expansive but also captivating in its massive scope. “Watershed Between Firmament” stands as a proud example of how to execute a black metal record of this variety in a scene that’s entirely oversaturated to the point of ridiculousness, and The Clearing Path is a band that should absolutely have a cult following purely because of its expertise if it doesn’t already.

In this wide scene of ridiculousness and experimentation, The Clearing Path doesn’t exactly stand out from the crowd at a glance but a quick investigation will prove that this man is more than simple riffs and an angry voice. “Watershed Between Firmament And The Realm of Hyperborea” is a piece that really captures all that’s great and otherworldly about black metal that we’ve all come to enjoy, and this man doesn’t allow the boundaries of the genre to allow his vision to come flowing forth. What ensues can only be described as excellence.
