We all have those eventful days that just simply need a winding down when it’s all over, and I’m no different. I sat down to find a record to sink my teeth into after a long day, and I felt that there’d be no vessel that some chill rock would be the perfect trip. Not even ten seconds into scouring Bandcamp, I stumbled once again upon The Re-Stoned. This Russian act didn’t disappoint me last year, and this trippy as fuck new record is no different and it’s precisely what I was looking for.
I’ve always had a weak spot for psychedelic rock probably because it strikes some chord within me and resonates really well with my tastes, and my previous experience with The Re-Stoned showed me that these guys know exactly how to bring the psychedelia and the rock in equally tremendous amounts in delicious quality to boot. This brand new album, “Chronoclasm”, takes that to beautiful new heights. Arguably the premier psychedelic rock band from all of Russia, The Re-Stoned truly knows this genre like few others in the entire underground of the world, and the seven mystifying tracks of “Chronoclasm” is clear proof. These instrumental ventures through space and time are the sort of shit that I started these reviews for because The Re-Stoned managed to make everything so catchy, so captivating, and so fucking tasty from that initial note down to the very cover art which is no less than fucking immaculate! “Chronoclasm” from start to finish is a glorious encompassment of the genre as a whole performed exceedingly well as The Re-Stoned shows off what they’re truly made of from fabulous riffs to stunning melodies to tantalizing effects. A jack-of-all-trades album that is all too good to pass up on, and one that might suffer the same unfortunate fate of many underground efforts: not getting enough recognition.
Both psychedelic and instrumental rock have rarely let me down before, and when they’re paired it always makes for a fucking phenomenal experience! The Re-Stoned is easily the most underrated band of this style, and they deserve so much more fame for the fantastic work that they put into these amazing albums. “Chronoclasm” is an opus of the genre that can easily take the underground by storm. If only given the chance, that is.
