Every now and then, you simply need a taste of the dark side, am I right? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a very consistent listener of black metal which is known to not exactly be the purest shit on the planet, but sometimes you need that extra kick forward. To need to get a taste of what makes the genre so infamous to those that don’t listen to black metal at all. Spite has been one of those bands that have been known for their blasphemy, and their debut album is a black text waiting to be opened.
There’s always an absolute slew of bands that come out and play music as if they’re Satanic and anti-religion and what have you, but not many bands are able to match the quality of their metal alongside the bold and black nature of their very own themes. Much like Inquisition, Spite manages to truly embody the theme of their music in ways that allows their debut album of “Antimoshiach” to become a real tantalizing piece of scathing black metal that any fan of the genre can appreciate. From the very onset, “Antimoshiach” is an album that doesn’t fuck around for a second, but Spite doesn’t lay out all of its cards on the table immediately. Instead, Spite deals one hand at a time with its waves of blasphemy. A riff here. Some blazing intensity there. Even a few ever so slightly calmer moments to add to contrast and spice things up just a bit. Spite doesn’t allow “Antimoshiach” to become a dull experience just because it’s their debut album, and it couldn’t have been pulled off better. Anticipations were high for this effort, and Spite truly fucking delivered.
Not enough bands can say they’re daring enough to take on such occult topics at full force, and unfortunately not many can put it in an entertaining album. Luckily, Spite has lived up to their own hype and enabled “Antimoshiach” to become a debut that should undoubtedly earn them their own cult following, and propel them forward in a scene that should most certainly accept them with open arms.
“Antimoshiach” releases on February 2nd via Invictus Productions!
