A band that has been around for decades are the kind that many people cling to given how those bands understandably almost always have a taste of classic material within their sound given that’s when they started things off as a group. Death metal is very true to this as plenty acts from Exhumed to Obituary to Cannibal Corpse still linger to this day, but I’ve honestly never heard of The Crown until recently. It’s one of those classic acts that managed to slip underneath my radar, and with their delicious upcoming piece, I can only say that I’m ashamed I haven’t heard them sooner.

It’s hard for an aging band to retain their fast, unrelenting pace as they get older because the band still needs to tour, and thus they have to perform so many fast-paced songs on stage and match their energy with the songs. It makes for a good performance but can be really draining on the members, so it’s fair if bands that are getting older want to pull the energy back a bit, but The Crown does no such fucking thing as “Cobra Speed Venom” is a blistering trip straight from hell! Over twenty years and starting out as a literal garage band has been kind to The Crown as this brand new set of thirteen unyielding tracks absolutely dominates over the listener and brings you into this little pocket dimension where all you can do is head-bang to the vicious beat! While retaining a slightly classic death metal feel that incorporates an absolute fuck ton of melody to only then back it up with speed that totally melts the skin right off your bones, and it all comes together so fucking well! “Cobra Speed Venom” is a true joy to listen to as The Crown puts more than enough meat on the bones of this record to make it a real tasty morsel that’s the sort of thing that will surely tempt you in time and again. We’re given something like “Cobra Speed Venom” very irregularly, and I’ll be damned before I let this slab of heaviness go by without being noticed.

The classic sound still refuses to go out as bands both new and old are still clamoring to keep it alive, and some bands simply throw down new works of awesomeness easily! The Crown is such a group as they show that they’ve still plenty of ferocity to spew out into the world at a vicious speed with the likes of “Cobra Speed Venom” showing that they’re still immensely powerful as a unit! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have over twenty years of material to catch up on.
