Black Salvation – Uncertainty Is Bliss

For whatever reason, Germany has been a hotspot for psychedelic rock with acts like Greenleaf and My Sleeping Karma hailing from the land, and the trend still continues to produce new and exceptional bands. I’ve heard whispers of the name of Black Salvation recently, so I seized the opportunity to get a taste of their new album early. Diving headfirst into this new opus of psychedelia, I was not prepared for what Black Salvation has conjured with this record.

Blending together psychedelia with a softer kind of rock is far more common as it really allows the mind to wander and become fully immersed in what the band in question is trying to create. Yet, when it comes to hard rock that tries to be trippy, it doesn’t tend to work out well given how heavy doesn’t always translate well to the ethereal world. Somehow, Black Salvation managed to make it work as their second full-length album, “Uncertainty Is Bliss”, is something that fans of doom and rock can enjoy as Black Salvation doesn’t shy away from snappy jams of delicious psychedelia nor from long-winded pieces of glory to give this album a truly dynamic feel. Throughout the over fifty minute long experience, “Uncertainty Is Bliss” is a true delight to nibble on bit by bit as Black Salvation shows a true understand with the style as these eight tracks are just the sort of thing that people salivate over, and this album serves as a beautiful eight-course meal. No two songs are alike and this act truly thrives on that diversity as they show they’re not trapped to one specific sound, but they can meander around and craft all sorts of different pieces while still maintaining a tasty core of psych-rock.

Heavy psych is a common thing as many doom bands aren’t scared of becoming psychedelic at times because it works splendidly in that fashion, but you just don’t see heavy psych with rock as opposed to metal. Black Salvation is easily the best argument I’ve seen for such, and “Uncertainty Is Bliss” is an acid trip the likes of which you better make damn sure you’re a part of.
