There are very few things in the world of metal that can top the energy and destructive value of Finnish death metal given its many forms and how tempered it has become ever since its inception. And by extension, it has influenced countless acts. Most recently, the sound’s reach has extended to the country of the Netherlands where a new act has crawled out of the woodwork like the majority of bands of death metal. Despite Grim Fate being not even a year old as a group, they’re already on the right path to becoming the new tasty underground treat to savor.

A debut is very important for any band no matter how many songs it has because it really shows the world what the band in question is bringing to the table. It always varies, and it’s doubly so with death metal as you could have two bands playing the same exact style but one might sound terrible because their sound just didn’t work compared to the others. When it comes to the raw slab of death metal that Grim Fate churns out, it’s no less than sadistically satisfying. “Emerging From the Crypt” is an incredibly fitting title for this debut as this group crawls out from the tomb with gore and entrails trailing behind them as they grind along with devastating instrumentation that’s all but perfect for death metal given how uncompromising, raw, and filthy to the very core it is. Each track has it’s own character as they’re all their own form of zombified corpse, but they all belong to the same graveyard as Grim Fate slays from one piece of nastiness to the next with skill and precision. Even though these guys only formed last year, they already know how to decimate everything in their own path as these four tracks are what many death metal acts aspire to make some day, but these guys have done it on the first fucking go.

“Emerging From the Crypt” is the very opposite of a pushover debut as it’s very much a toxin that burrows its way deep into your brain and latches itself in. From there on out, the only cure is to absorb more to get your fix, and even then you’ll be left wanting more. Grim Fate has a bright future ahead in their horrific graveyard, and I can’t wait to see what else these zombies will be able to summon from the depths of hell.
