Bringing together two styles of any kind is one hell of a task no matter how you look at it. It’s very particular and one mishap can send the whole formula out the fucking window. Luckily, it doesn’t happen very often where it ends in disaster given how bands tend to pour plenty of heart and soul into their material. Skognatt has been teasing fans for years with their promise of a full-length record, and only just very recently that has become a reality, and it couldn’t be any tastier.

There are very few flavors throughout metal that can compare to the sound of some solid blackened doom simply because of what a band has to do to bring such a unique sound to our ears, and Skognatt is by no means a stranger of an act to performing the style given how they’ve been building up to this debut LP for two years. I personally never heard of them until recently, and I’m kind of glad because this debut is a fucking killer from start to finish and I would’ve hated waiting two years in grand anticipation! “Ancient Wisdom” slays from one end to the other as Skognatt experts darts from acoustic tastiness to a scathing sensation that truly knows no bounds from tracks like “Worlds Apart” and “Thanatos” being crispy pieces that just keep on giving. With the instrumentation that sounds very Eastern inspired, vocals maintaining a solid black metal feel that molds perfectly with the instruments, and an overall sense of cohesion and musicianship that can only be described as delicious as Skognatt constantly delivers at every turn with “Ancient Wisdom”.

Skognatt leaves no stone unturned as they decimate at every opportunity with this record being a tantalizing debut that most wish they could deliver, but these guys do it like it’s fucking nothing. If “Ancient Wisdom” is anything to go by, then Skognatt are an act that must have eyes kept on them as often as possible for they can create something truly amazing if given the chance.
