The black metal scene of Bandcamp as a whole is truly thriving more than it ever has, and the style that easily takes the place as the most saturated style has to be atmospheric black metal. I’m not sure if it’s the immersive factors that bring the allure, the diversity in sound, or the concept of atmospheric black metal itself that draws so many people to the innumerable amount of bands that the style has. If there is any band of the style that has flown under the radar that should be given more attention has got to be Trees, Clouds & Silence whose brand new album has got everything people love about the style with plenty of flavors to go around.
Adoration of the forest and nature is far from uncommon in atmospheric black metal to where I consider it a bit of a change when a band doesn’t do go with such a theme, but it’s kind of obvious that Trees, Clouds & Silence take the road of forest worship. By no means do I mean this in a bad way as pretty much everything about this one-man band (yet another trend in the black metal scene in late years) is nailed amazingly well with everything down to the shading of the very cover art is done to tasteful success. “Let Me Die On Your Roots” is a very emotional album as the mastermind, Ocram, truly pours his heart and soul into this sophomore release with the very melodies showing the power that Trees, Clouds & Silence has to offer from its soaring melodies to the shadows it merges with in its calmest moments. With every other track serving as the meat of “Let Me Die On Your Roots” with the subsequent tracks providing a slight reprieve from the energy that Trees, Clouds & Silence can bring with distinct power and style. It all comes together brilliantly to become an album that’s may be very predictable to someone who’s very familiar with atmospheric black metal, but there’s no denying the tastiness and enjoyment that there is to find within the contents of “Let Me Die On Your Roots”. It’s a powerful album that doesn’t shy away from playing what it wants to even if it might be textbook for the genre, and even by the end of it, you’ll find yourself wanting to lay in the forest and allow the shade to envelop you as the glory of nature progresses around you.
There are many, many, many records within the world of atmospheric black metal and I’ve sadly fallen out of the scene lately to explore different avenues in the world of metal. Listening to “Let Me Die On Your Roots” has rekindled a flame that I never knew went out, and now I want to dive right back into the style more than ever! In no small regard, Trees, Clouds & Silence has created an intoxicating record that takes you through everything great about the style, and I can only see this act growing in popularity and talent if given time.
