A band that explodes in any scene is the sort of thing that should always be watched under a close eye so that we, as fans, can find out quickly if we’re hoping too much for the band in question to make more than one good album or if the band we’re examing is absolutely stunning. Spaceslug is definitely the latter with their entire discography across a mere three-year existence overall getting better and better with each new release. Tensions have been high since the announcement of their third full-length album, and I’m happy to report that these Polish geniuses once again deliver an experience of space and smoke that we’re unlikely to find anywhere else.

Going from album to album, it’s very easy to see the sheer quality increase with each one showing more mastery of stoner doom than the last. I, personally, wasn’t expecting Spaceslug to return so soon after releasing a full-length and an EP last year with me thinking they might take some more time to tour and such, but I’m not complaining! Just hearing the riff for the first morsel of the single that is the first track from “Eye the Tide” sets the tone for the entirety of the record, and it’s yet again another trip the likes of which Spaceslug could only produce. Sure, we’ve seen countless amounts of stoner doom over the decades, but there’s a special charm and tastiness that Spaceslug brings to the table that it truly enables each and every release of their’s to shine like a brilliant supernova. That charm returns in full force with even more polish as the third chapter of Spaceslug’s cosmic trip is everything we could’ve asked for. From psychedelic riffs to the crispy atmosphere to the irresistible flavors, “Eye the Tide” brings together everything that we love with Spaceslug up to now and turns it all up by fucking ten! The album cruises along at a steady pace without shying away from making swift turns or making seemingly rash decisions to make the whole of “Eye the Tide” more entertaining and the execution is nigh on flawless. I once figured that there wasn’t much more that Spaceslug could do to surprise me apart from continuing to be a tasty treat, but “Eye the Tide” has gladly made me eat my words.

The scene has been incredibly embracing of Spaceslug, and it’s not hard to see why as we continue to get one present after another with “Eye the Tide” being the creme de la creme here. It’s an absolutely wild ride that’s mellow at the same exact time, and I’ve no question that fans of both the band and the style will fall in love with this record.
