We live in a truly golden age of death metal where it seems every variety of the style is blooming all year-round and there’s always so much to go around. One of the most potent forms of death metal that I’ve seen more recently is the fusion of death and crust metal to create a truly vicious assault that always comes in short, massively explosive bursts. Siege of Power doesn’t only share the name of a very classy Napalm Death song, but also the same ferocity and unrelenting attitude.
With a whopping eighteen bullets, Siege of Power holds nothing back with their triumphant return album, “Warning Blast”, that takes the punk influence that graces crust metal itself and turns it up to an eleven. There’s not a damned thing with keeping things short, sweet, and precisely to the point and that’s the entirety of “Warning Blast” from start to finish as Siege of Power doesn’t let a single moment go to waste without maximizing the power and the unbridled fury that they could dish out as a unit packed to the brim with death, flamethrowers, and riffs. It can become difficult just to not have two songs sound the same, but Siege of Power manages to make every single one of these eighteen tracks just differently enough to where each assault is from a new front, each rhythm provides a fresh wave of bombardment, and each beat a mine explosion that instantly turns uninitiated into a fine red mist. There’s so much going on all the time with “Warning Blast” as Siege of Power has already mastered the craft of keeping things moving all the time to enable the entirety of the record to become an active experience that you can’t lower your guard on for even a microsecond lest you get pummeled under this immense attack.
Crust is an incredibly difficult thing to pull off as you can easily just sound like fast death metal cut down to between one and three minutes, but bands like Siege of Power are what keep the style alive and thriving. “Warning Blast” is an incredibly vicious piece from front to back, and there’s no denying that this recently resurrected band has more fuel than ever before to create their own path of devastation.
“Warning Blast” releases on September 7th via Metal Blade Records!
