Eternal Rot – Cadaverine

Something that I’ve always loved about metal is how easily you can gel two different styles together to create a sound that’s somehow even more potent and volatile than if the styles were left alone. It has created some of my favorite albums ever with many different bands bringing together so many different styles to create a sound that’s truly unique, but some bands only need two in order to make an impression. With their first bit of material in four years, Eternal Rot shows us how to do just that.

Just from that cover art alone, you can tell that Eternal Rot wasn’t fucking around with the creation of this album to the point where every track display even more power than the last. With a mixture of death and doom metal, Eternal Rot definitely had a bit to prove with “Cadaverine” as the style always has good stuff coming out so Eternal Rot really needed to make sure their sound was worth hearing. Three hours later and after listening to these four tracks that whole time, I can happily say that “Cadaverine” is an incredibly strong set of tracks that aren’t to be taken lightly. Not one single bit of “Cadaverine” allows for a reprieve as Eternal Rot fantastically nails the concept of truly filth-ridden death metal smashed together with graveyard-worthy doom metal that has the power to enable the dead itself to arise and fight alongside Eternal Rot as they continue to slaughter all who stand in their way. This very first attempt at a full-length can seem quite short especially given only four tracks that aren’t even that long, especially for doom, but it’s the sheer quality of what we’re given with “Cadaverine” that really allows the record to go above what I was initially expected and, instead, delivers a performance worthy of applause and attention.

Every debut has to make an impression, otherwise, what’s the reason to come back to the band in question? With these four tracks, Eternal Rot does an excellent job of showing just how to do voracious death/doom in such a nasty way the likes of which I haven’t seen for far too long. “Cadaverine” is an album practically made for the underground of the metal world, and it delivers at every possible turn.

“Cadaverine” releases on September 17th via Godz ov War Productions!
