There is something about most music that many people tend to forget especially in the world of metal where everything tends to be violent and even catastrophic at times: it’s art. We tend to gloss over that fact with many bands bringing the craft of songwriting down to a literal science in order to deliver us a product. Yet, some acts refuse to let metal die as an art form, and Laudare is one of the newest bands at the forefront of such a movement with their debut album being quite the heavyweight.
A lot of the time that I see a metal try to be artsy in a really obvious way, it tends to make the band feel and sound incredibly pretentious which then makes their music sound so… drowned with the attitude of the band bringing the quality down. But through real talent combined with true passion, a band can describe their music as violent poetry and manage to create an experience that’s multi-faceted as well as quite the treat to enjoy over and over again. “d.é.o.m.é.” is the latest example of that as Laudare pushes forward with their amalgamation of different rock and metal styles to blend together a sound that is both organic yet constant shifting with one face not long being replaced by another equally illustrious one. An incredible amount of focus is placed on the lyrical content of “d.é.o.m.é.” and it doesn’t take great observation to see that as Laudare excels at bringing together powerfully passionate vocals, eclectic instrumentation that can be more fluid than the fucking ocean, and a glorious sense of pride that permeates all seven tracks of “d.é.o.m.é.” to really allow the album to evolve with each song. It becomes its own animal, and by the end truly warrants another listen as you’ll constantly find new things to discover within the jungle that Laudare has hand-crafted for us to wander through and ponder on the atmosphere with which we’re presented.
I’m constantly drawn to band that try to blend together many different sounds to create something new and even unique to really show off their creative sides with Inter Arma and Whispered being my personal favorites, but it’s with Laudare that I’m given my latest sample. “d.é.o.m.é.” is a top to bottom onslaught of passionate violent poetry backed by incredible musicianship that really allows the album to become so much more than what I ever expected.
