Music has long been held as a medium that provides short term release in the form of music that comes but for a few minutes most of the time. But so many bands try to bring something different to the table by trying to make their music feel like an experience more than anything. Instrumental acts do this better than most others in my opinion, and I was eagerly waiting to see what next instrumental piece would astonish me next. Glasir came back around for me with their upcoming record, and it’s precisely what I want out of an experience.
I’ve never been to big into the styles of post-rock or post-metal simply for reasons that I simply don’t know. I like to think it was just my taste wasn’t refined enough at the time, but now I’m trying to slowly get more into the style where I can. This past year has been create at delivering some delicious post material my way with Kauan starting the parade last year, but now it’s with Glasir that I’m given my latest offering. The name is familiar to me, but I wondered if these six tracks that make up “New Dark Age” would grasp me more than their last album, and holy shit does it! Everything that Glasir does with “New Dark Age” is a glorious display of meshing together to two stark different worlds of post-rock and post-metal to create a beautiful amalgamation between two styles that enables for a truly unique and immersive sound to come forth. Top all that off with impeccable musicianship shown off via beautiful instrumentals and you’ve got a top to bottom dynamic experience that very few other bands can look at and even come close to simply because Glasir has gone above and beyond with this record.
“New Dark Age” is the very definition of what it means to take the two different styles of post and create something that can only be considered as incredibly immersive and satisfying to the very end. Glasir really impresses with this new album, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this record become a cult classic.
