Anaal Nathrakh – A New Kind of Horror

Every now and then, the world of metal brings forth an act that refuses to conform to the norm by any means whatsoever. It’s an act that has a mind all its own, one that will only ever see and thus spit forth flame, and one that will most certainly gain a devoted following for all those maniacs who simply revel in the unadulterated chaos that knows no bounds whatsoever. If there is any band that’s going now that fits such a description it’s Anaal Nathrakh who with their tenth record show that they are still an act that wouldn’t stop for the end of the world.

This is a band that I can’t say that I listen to on a normal basis simply because they’re too extreme for my everyday taste, but there’s something about what Anaal Nathrakh that just keeps me crawling back every time they put out a new record every other year. I figured that after a while they’d start to really change things up or go for something a little different, but instead Anaal Nathrakh presses on with their sheer wall of chaos even after twenty records of being a band, and “A New Kind of Horror” is just the sort of thing we should expect from such seasoned veterans from the most obscene fringes of extreme metal. Literally everything about “A New Kind of Horror” is nowhere near nice in any terms of any universe ever and Anaal Nathrakh fucking knows it as each track provides a slightly different listening experience while still be a straight up murderous onslaught. With constant blistering speeds paired with an unrelenting intensity that oozes across everything in its path before devouring it on the spot, there isn’t one stone of sheer madness that “A New Kind of Horror” doesn’t turn over before lighting it up with a flamethrower. Consult with your doctor before listening to these ten tracks as this is certainly not for the weak of heart and even the sturdy and seasoned will find trouble making it through these layers of sheer chaos.

There are very few listening experiences that can come on par with what Anaal Nathrakh has spawned forth with their tenth album, much less their other pieces, and it’s the exact sort of thing that has allowed this band the cult status they’ve rightfully claimed. While this is far from anything that I will listen to casually, I can’t help but applaud Anaal Nathrakh with “A New Kind of Horror” being the furthest extreme metal has ever gone and I know they will only continue to climb.

“A New Kind of Horror” releases on September 28th via Metal Blade Records!
