It was ever since my introduction to death metal that I’ve always felt partial to the melodic territory of the genre as I find that still to be the most easily accessible style in all of death metal, and with loads of exceptional acts from Amon Amarth to Arch Enemy to Be’lakor, what’s not to love? Admittedly, I haven’t been big into the style as it was with the last Countless Skies record a few years ago that I sort of fell out of the style with the occasional return, but it’s with From Ashes Reborn that I think I’ve found the stuff to rekindle the flame.
Something that I’ve noticed a good bit of people saying about melo-death is how sometimes it can feel “boring” or “has no pizzazz” which I find to be incredibly ridiculous overall, but like every style, it all depends on the band in question. It’s especially dubious for newer bands to overcome such a hurdle as many people see them as blatant rip-offs of bigger acts which, again, is ludicrous. But it’s because of younger bands like the aforementioned Countless Skies that keep me going for the style, and now it’s with the debut of From Ashes Reborn, “Existence Exiled”, that’s another glorious example of such. Every example of this eight-track album is one great display of talented melo-death after another, and you can really feel the passion all throughout this record as From Ashes Reborn makes it into a science come the end of the record. Though for me, the real beauty of “Existence Exiled” for me comes in how well the album encompasses the entirety of the spectrum of melodic death metal as the vocals are spot on in every song, the instrumentations range from straight heaviness to tasteful flashiness, and the musicianship along with quality is always enticing that allows “Existence Exiled” to be an absolute ride of adrenaline!
There are many styles of metal that can be described as incredibly oversaturated as it’s incredibly popular in places like Bandcamp where black metal and brutal death metal seem to reign supreme in many areas, and melo-death is definitely up there and it’s thanks to bands like From Ashes Reborn that it’s a thing in the first place. I’ve no doubt whatsoever that every piece of goodness we got with “Existence Exiled” is going to be somehow more impressive than this flavorful debut.
