I don’t know what the weather is like where you’re at, but in my part of the world, it is incredibly cold for this time of year here. The crispy cold air is something that’ll really wake you up, and just seeing the snowfall and fields covered in a white sheet is a unique sensation in it of itself, and having music to fit the mood is something people like me live for. What better vessel than post-rock and what better band to bring such a unique feel to life than a band from one of the coldest countries: Russia? Jet Plane eagerly steps up to the plate for that and does nothing but excel.
Just being able to sit on my porch and look at the snow falling without having anything other than pure sound being my companion in gazing is something that’s a very ideal situation for me, and if it’s instrumental that’s even better as I feel that fits the mood more. And as if to deliver me just what I want, Jet Plane has brought us a dreamy and instrumental post-rock album that goes perfectly with the sound and scenario that I’ve been going on and on about. But there’s more to the six tracks of “Falls Feather” than just post-rock as we get plenty of indie flavors thrown into the mix that really allows Jet Plane to explore the musical horizon in ways that simply playing post-rock would not be able to properly encapsulate in a single album. From neoclassical elements to a progressive nature, none of the tracks that make up “Falls Feather” are anything to sleep on as you can really tell Jet Plane put their all into this record as each track has its own flavor and emotions that help “Falls Feather” feel like so much more than just a mere collection of songs. With the album having a slight ethereal essence about it and plenty of melodies, there’s not much here that Jet Plane didn’t pull off exceedingly well here.
The beauty of post-rock is something that I’ll almost never get tired of, but that doesn’t mean that every album I hear from the style is gold to me as it’s still quite difficult to make it sound well with everything going into it. Luckily, Jet Plane pulls it off wondrously as “Falls Feather” is just the sort of thing that many of us need to listen to as the snow falls and the air is brisk.
