I’ve come across a lot of instances where people tend to not enjoy modern heavy metal acts because they find those acts to be “cheesy” in their lyrical theme or seem stale to them as they’re not doing anything dynamic with the sound. I could not disagree enough with such a statement as the genre of heavy metal itself can easily be cheesy in its own great way that many bands have been able to thrive off of with talent being the clear main driving force. Battle Beast may not be the exact thing many of us think of for premier heavy metal acts of our time, but they’re quickly working to change that.

A force like this is something we’ve all definitely seen before, but a powerhouse such as Battle Beast doesn’t come around often enough. Many times I’ve seen this band both hailed and talked down over many things from having a woman vocalist to them creating metal that some say appeal to the lowest common denominator of listeners as though they were a radio band. But it’s with Battle Beast that we’ve seen both passion and talent overflowing in each of their records, and that’s what keeps me crawling back to this band and it’s with “No More Hollywood Endings” that I return yet again for their cheesy excellence. Granted, this record doesn’t do anything greatly different to heavy metal as a whole, but it gives Battle Beast a fresh coat of paint that I never really felt was needed but it’s refreshing nonetheless! We’re treated to all the more heavy hitters with “No More Hollywood Endings” chock-full of one potential single after another as Battle Beast passes effortlessly from one powerful soulful ballad to a grand anthem to an immensely emotional performance that, when all brought together for an album like this, creates a listen of high octane energy coupled with real soul that only heavy metal can provide. It would’ve been easy to rest on the lauds and praises of their last few albums, but Battle Beast refuses to sit for long and it’s thanks to that constantly moving mentality that we’ve received an album that’s meant for real fans of the genre that always crave for power, melody, and emotional at all times for this is a record that epitomizes all of those all the way to the very end.

I can easily see this record being dismissed by many as being boring given how we’ve seen such a thing before and novelty is a nice thing, but there’s something about the powerful performance that Battle Beast constantly brings to the table that always keeps me coming back. Luckily, it has persisted to become the soul of “No More Hollywood Endings” to make this a shining beacon of heavy metal as 2019 continues onward.
