The single greatest idea that I’ve found in all my time scouring music is how every now and then we get an act that dares to create songs that are ridiculous in length as we get pieces that can range from something like fifteen minutes to well over forty at times. It’s normally in the realm of doom that we see it more often as the style lends itself greatly to that, but it’s acts like Ysengrin, Kauan, and, most recently in my experience, Flame, Dear Flame that has shown us how to do a surely incredibly difficult take on music in splendid fashion. It’s with their humble debut that we see Flame, Dear Flame gives us something that’s far from earth-shattering but absolutely delicious nonetheless.

It’s with a damned good reference for a name and a set of vocals that caught me off guard right from the get-go, there wasn’t much about Flame, Dear Flame that didn’t seem grand just in the first few minutes of this epic experience. And while the whole of “The Millennial Heartbeat” is broken up into three separate tracks with each being a tad longer than the last, it all acts as a single cohesive epic that has its own ebbs and flows with the occasional dip of silence to reel you in even further as Flame, Dear Flame works their magic. It’s with a slow burn and deep cuts that “The Millennial Heartbeat” progresses brilliantly as every about the record from the beckoning atmosphere to the sparks of heaviness that we see this album organically flow back and forth with utmost ease. There’s not a single point throughout this record where Flame, Dear Flame feels like they’re lingering or straying on the same part for too long as they always know how to keep the energy flowing and the music interesting as we see them tackle their 20+ minute debut with deadly accuracy.

It would be incredibly easy for any act to stumble on something like this and it’d be more than understandable if they did, but it’s with “The Millennial Heartbeat” that no such error occurs as we’re treated to something immersive as well as satisfying as this band starts off with a fantastic display of talent. Should this just be the beginning of things for Flame, Dear Flame then I’ll be sitting on the edge of my seat eagerly awaiting their return.
