You know, some people just don’t know where to stop much less when.  If you ask me, just being a multi-instrumentalist alone makes you way more talented than what some other people manage to accomplish, but then already having two glorious bands that have already put out stupendous material is enough laurels for most. Yet, that doesn’t stop the likes of the man behind The Clearing Path and Summit from creating a third band out of seemingly simple beginnings, and it’s from such that we get what’s easily my favorite act that this one man has created: Cosmic Putrefaction.

What I felt I was going to get going into this nine-track debut was going to be some form of black metal that got pretty atmospheric and might’ve sounded something like Spectral Lore maybe. Well, fuck me sideways because I was wrong! What Cosmic Putrefaction throws down with this record is nothing short of extremely potent and intoxicating death metal that’s backed by a cosmic presence in the form of a thick aura that wraps every song from this exemplary debut, “At the Threshold of the Greatest Chasm”. And indeed, we are at the greatest chasm as there’s not a moment throughout these nine tracks that Cosmic Putrefaction doesn’t deliver us a truly venomous dosage of dense death metal that never clocks in above five minutes. Yet, every second is capitalized such that we’re treated to multiple helpings of excellence that effortlessly bound between malevolent death metal to truly disturbing vibrations that creep underneath your skin instead so that by the time the supernovas explodes forth Cosmic Putrefaction has reached maximum ferocity. “At the Threshold of the Greatest Chasm” holds everything vicious about the horrific expansive black that is space in all of its unending mysteries, and somehow it’s through these nine tracks that we’ve got something truly marvelous on a scale the likes of which we rarely get.

There’s no other way for me to say it: what we get here is easily a record that many people should be talking about come to the end of the year where we reflect on what all was great throughout 2019. For without doubt, Cosmic Putrefaction has created one of the best the year is sure to throw at us. It merely needs time to blossom and find the throngs of maniacs that will bask in the glory of this album just as I’ve had the fortune of as “At the Threshold of the Greatest Chasm” tore away at my very existence.
