It’s every now and then that we get the occasional album that becomes more of an experience than a mere collection of songs consisting of riffs and melodies. There’s real passion put into these exceptional works and it’s a real genius that shines through as we are constantly shown excellence in these works. Although just starting out, it’s with their debut album that Kha.wis shows they clearly have the capacity to create such a listen as they’ve done just that here albeit with plenty of room for improvement.
I always get excited when I find out albums like this are debuts because, more often than not, that means there is more to come in future as the band in question gets a firmer grip on what they’re throwing down even if it’s pretty awesome to start out with. That is precisely the case with Kha.wis and it’s all throughout “Life Oscillation” that I could not but be lost in wonder as these four lengthy tracks bring so much to the table with an incredibly dynamic nature that is immensely flavorful from beginning to end. This sort of material very much reminds me of the likes of Kauan and even Neurosis at times. Not because they’re similar in sound but more of because they refuse to stay tied down in one sonic range to, ultimately, become a real bore, but, instead, chooses to wander a tasteful amount to where “Life Oscillation” has a solid foundation of a mixture of doom and post-metal that is quite seductive in its entirety as Kha.wis shows off loads of diversity in their sound to make this debut an incredibly interesting effort that displays how many moving parts this band is able to captain beautifully without fail, and that’s a trait I treasure highly. From the glorious vocals to beautiful instrumentation to the real ambition mixed with a passion that covers every second of this record it’s with “Life Oscillation” that we’ve got a brilliant first step for Kha.wis that has loads of room for improvement albeit an experience that is simply rich in quality.
To see this band progress their sound would be a treat like very few others. It’s always fun to see how bands improve over time as they refine their craft bit by bit, but when the starting off point is already laden with greatness, it really makes you excited to see what comes next as I am after hearing “Life Oscillation”. Whatever happens, I truly cannot wait to see what else Kha.wis can conjure next and I’m sure it’ll be a delivery that will be nothing short of staggering.
