Aborted Earth – Cut the Chord

Of all the grind acts that I’ve heard in my efforts to get more into the style, I’ve come across many that just simply don’t do anything that set themselves apart from the rest. I’d sit here and say that a lot of times they’re just loud with no clear destination in sight, but that’s what grind is and one of the things that I enjoy about it, but many acts just don’t sound dynamic enough to me to where they jump out and become something that I can sink my teeth into. With was with their last effort that Aborted Earth caught my attention, and it’s with “Cut the Chord” that they’ve earned my utmost respect.

Everything that was laid down in the foundation that was “Placenta” is built upon magnificently with every aspect being both enhanced and magnified to where they all get their time in the spotlight as Aborted Earth creates one of the most engaging and interesting works of grind that I’ve heard in years. There’s so much to be had within the caustic confines of “Cut the Chord” that it feels just like a grind album should as it could peel the very paint off the wall in the first few seconds, but the underlying melodies and the glorious maneuvering between a wall of sheer madness and metal brilliance that really breathes new life into the record every chance it gets. “Cut the Chord” has one of the most intriguingly diverse track lists that I’ve seen since the last Cattle Decapitation effort as Aborted Earth pilots this record through territory that we’ve all become familiar with, but they aren’t afraid for even a moment to dive headfirst into places they’ve never gone before to allow for a somehow organic feel to the overall record that lets “Cut the Chord” be so much more. Shit, just the idea of them covering “Pop Goes the World” is a weird thought, and it’s the execution that’s delicious. But it’s the rest of the album that shows Aborted Earth just isn’t some band that goes into the studio aiming to rupture our eardrums but to instead bring forth nasty flavors cooked in a truly disgusting pot that results in a pulsating mass that’s as grotesque as it is interesting to dig into.

There is still loads and loads of room to make for improvement despite the excellence that’s going from beginning to end with this record, and given the sheer difference in quality from “Placenta” to this I’ve no doubt that Aborted Earth can quickly make that up. “Cut the Chord” is easily one of the most interesting pieces of its style that I’ve heard in months, and I can only urge you to not only investigate for yourselves but to also remember the name of Aborted Earth, for that will surely become a name that should become respected in the underground of grind.

“Cut the Chord” releases on May 30th!
