Vicious black and death metal is far from something that we could call even remotely uncommon as we see bands trying the style practically every other day, but, like most styles, only a few manage to show they know what they’re doing all across the board to bring an album that simply crushes from beginning to end. It’s been a hot minute since an act that brought black and death together that really caught my attention, and it’s with their first go at a full-length record that Trench Warfare quickly shows potential.

It’s more often than not that I find myself half expecting to see many black metal acts mix their sound with thrash for some reason, and I honestly thought that’s what I was going to get with Trench Warfare when I saw that fiery cover art with all the coils and tendrils in all of their glory. That’s just what comes to my mind when I think of speedy evil the likes of which blackened thrash provides, and while “Hatred Prayer” has more than enough speed to pulverize anyone foolish enough to get in the way, the main companion with the black metal is death and Trench Warfare wields it like a weapon that they’ve been training with since boyhood. This is the exact sort of voracious sound that pulls you right into the flames of war as Trench Warfare does no less than eviscerate any sort of holy scriptures with the flick of a wrist and then proceeds to mount towers of corpses in a sound bound to bring forth swathes of hellfire that adorn each and every track of “Hatred Prayer” that are all equally destructive, seductive, and malevolent. “Hatred Prayer” has no concept of downtime which allows for every violent moment of these twelve hymns of flame to instantly burn their way into your minds with such fervor that is immensely potent in heavy doses. It’s a record that refuses to even fathom leaving survivors, and it’s each that could topple a city and raze citadels if merely given the opportunity in all of its intoxicating chaos!

This is the sort of debut that gets me really excited as you can just hear the talent oozing forth from every possible moment of it, and I can just feel that it’s the beginning of excellence for Trench Warfare! “Hatred Prayer” is a venomous display of power that’s as evil as it is blisteringly fast and it couldn’t be any more vicious!
