EnFire – Juniper Landing

Bursting forth with riffs in one hand and a joint in the other is the sort of thing that many bands have made a decent following out of, especially in recent years with the stoner strains of rock and doom metal absolutely blossoming on an unprecedented scale. But, that doesn’t guarantee quality. It takes the right mindset and talent to bring it to a great level, and, fortunately, EnFire displays all of that enticing goodness wrapped in thick smoke with their eclectic debut.

Right from that flamboyant cover art, there is no step that EnFire skipped to make this debut as eye-catching as possible so that all who hit that first play button can understand just what exactly “Juniper Landing” is bringing to the table. And it’s nothing we’ve seen before but goddamn if it isn’t a damn good time to listen to! There’s so much unruly heaviness spread throughout this album capped off by intoxicating riffage and blowing forth smoke that’d instantly get you contact high in such a way. Immediately, it enables “Juniper Landing” to become a hazy record that’s a pure joy to listen to as EnFire doesn’t skimp on the quality on any fronts whether it comes in the form of an assault of catchiness that never lets your attention go or an instrumental deluge of classy heaviness that’s all but amazingly immersive as “Juniper Landing” chugs along like  marijuana-powered boat from one track to the next. Like I said – there’s not much in this record that we haven’t seen before, but EnFire has created a gorgeous example of how to take a formula that can feel like it’s been done absolutely to death at times still feel as fun as it did on day one with the same heaviness to match. It’s a concoction that we don’t get often enough, and that makes this creation all the more noteworthy.

I can’t see anything but a bright future for EnFire and that’s after getting through all the smoke they pour forth from “Juniper Landing” (it’s a stoner record, I’m sure you get it by now). The entirety of this record is exactly what I could have ever asked for out of any band, and the fact that this is EnFire’s debut makes this victory of an album all the sweeter from beginning to end, and I couldn’t implore you enough to get lost in this tastefully psychedelic slab of excellence.
