While I do very much enjoy inspecting the underground in all of its unending potential that’s to be had, it does behoove one to look up every now and then to really see what the slightly bigger acts are up to. It’s usually a band that many, many know the world over when I do it, but sometimes there comes along a name that has plenty of recognition for sure but not nearly enough. Torche has been no less than immaculate with their entire past speaking for itself, but it’s with this new album that Torche start a glorious new chapter in their worthy of legend career.
Right off the bat, Torche isn’t fucking around as just looking at the track listing can see that there are plenty of tracks across “Admission” that aren’t very long as many of them don’t tread over 3.5 minutes to effectively make this 11-song record oddly short. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t expect such a thing from an act like this as we usually get a record that has more meat on its bones to really give us something that’ll keep us talking for a good while. But do not take that “lack of meat” anything negative as in its place Torche has put nothing but muscle as every single piece of “Admission” hits like a fucking semi! As if taking notes from punk, there’s not a whole lot of negative space to go around throughout this record as Torche jumps in, fucks shit up left and right with riffs abound and modern American rock excellence flying all over, and then bouncing the fuck out. It’s effective. It’s deadly. It’s potent in every single way, and when Torche does linger you’d best be listening carefully for that’s where “Admission” really gives us what we came for as everything that Torche has done to this point builds up to a fantastic climax that is ever so satisfying with gorgeous detail to boot. With the skill and talent that only a band of modern regality like this can execute in such flawless fashion, “Admission” is the exact sort of rock album that this world needs right now and it doesn’t cower from derailing from the norm to make for a much more three-dimensional listen that is nigh on enrapturing.
I’ve always liked Torche, but it’s with this record specifically that they’ve really taken their sound to bounds that are worthy of all ears all over the world. There are many bands out there that are worthy of worldwide attention, and I cannot stress enough that Torche deserves more attention than ever with this record. Everything is expanded upon beautifully to make “Admission” a record that just simply can’t be passed up.
