Husmanskost – Global Cognitive Slumber

I found myself this morning seeing the reveal trailer for the impending Cattle Decapitation album. I was listening for anything. A snippet. A hint. A muffled growl. Fucking something to let me know what we’re in for with that album! But they gave us nothing! And I was dying for some voracious grind that would fucking melt the skin off of my bones! Tonight, I came back intending to get my fix of some grind, and like much like their previous efforts, Husmanskost has delivered yet even more material for me to scratch that ever-bothersome itch.

More often than not, when I go into an album knowing of its style beforehand I have already formed somewhat of an idea as to what the band in question will sound like. But when it comes to grind, all that goes out the fucking window as it really seems as though it’s a breeding ground where nothing but the disturbingly vicious persevere and succeed. It was with their previous works that Husmanskost has consistently provided raw, unadulterated grind the likes of which I’ve always been able to find something satisfying out of, and that trend only continues with “Global Cognitive Slumber”. Everything that they brought to the table on previous albums feels so much more complete when you look at these ten morsels of utter chaos one at a time even though Husmanskost makes damn sure that you’re always under a constant assault of noise and violence that rarely ever relents. It brings together so much ferocity and unrelenting power that it never feels as though “Global Cognitive Slumber” goes easy on you for this is a true grind piece in that right from the get-go you’re being obliterated and Husmanskost does their damnedest to erase you from existence be it through a sheer barrage of presence, the occasional riff that somehow makes things a little more devastating, or a duet of vocals that bring a great new change of pace to the mix even if it’s only around for a few seconds.

It all comes together gloriously, and you can really see the growth that Husmanskost has gone through in such a short time with this being their third release in a year. “Global Cognitive Slumber” isn’t by any means whatsoever a grind record that I could call phenomenal or anything like that, but there’s no denial in my mind whatsoever that this record is as primal and raw as a proper grind album should be. And really what else do you need?
