It’s every now and then that we get an album that really takes the given genre and the band in question seeks to make an experience out of it. Something that’s immensely grandiose and richly detailed as it’s the sort of thing we’ve rarely seen before if at all. This is not one of those albums as it’s for the entirety of these nine tracks that Gravefields sets out to do a very simple yet rewarding idea of death metal: decimate everything.
To create a record whose sole purpose seems to just consume all light and life is far from a novel or unique concept to the world of death metal, but it’s the sort of thing that just never seems to get old no matter how many bands try to run it into the ground. It just almost always seems to work, and it’s with high octane power and immense fervor that Gravefields seeks no less than the ultimate death as they ravage all through each passage of “Embrace the Void”. There is no room for comfort anywhere throughout this album as Gravefields has made it their mission to make sure that the entirety of this album is a sheer vacuum that leaves just barely enough air for you to breathe before suffocating under the tremendous pressure that this listen exudes at every given moment. It brings forth a truly unforgiving listen that does no less than churn together your bones and blood into a thick soup that “Embrace the Void” takes with ease to turn it into nothing just a moment later. Gravefields leaves nothing to enjoy even after the monolithic riffs and flavorful performance that they give for the entire album leaves you wanting more despite the very power of this album sucking away at your life force.
Such power is far from rare in today’s climate, but that doesn’t make this any less potent or enjoyable as Gravefields clearly know what they’re doing for this album and it shows. With unbridled rage and a bloodlust that simply can’t be sated, you can’t go wrong with “Embrace the Void”.
