A good solid slab of black metal is something whose power can rarely be denied and is the sort of thing that can grab my attention really easily. But, a little bit of flair goes a long way and being a fan of anything with a medieval touch, seeing a black metal act bringing something like that into the mix is already on its way to being something I can really enjoy. It’s far from easy to pull off, though, but that didn’t stop Man Daitõrgul from making it look effortless with this magnificent album.
I will always say that my go-to band in this particular vein of black metal is Itnuveth without a doubt as they just always know how to bring glory to the Spanish scene in ways that virtually no other band from Spain (of any style for that matter) has been able to do for me. That is until Man Daitõrgul, also hailing from Spain, did just that with the excellence that is “Gosk e’ Vidʒera”. Maybe it’s something in the water in Spain? I have no clue but I do know for a fact that should you consider yourself even a remote fan of medieval black metal, then you cannot go wrong with Man Daitõrgul as this one-man band brings everything great about it in absolute spades here. Quite literally everything about “Gosk e’ Vidʒera” from its terrific sense of melody to its brilliantly engaging use of ethnic instruments and ritual chants to its magnificent pacing that always keeps the listener interested to its stupendous mix of flavors that are virtually inscrutible in their balancing comes together flawlessly to ensure that not only Man Daitõrgul has created a great album for the style but just a great album in general.
It’s hard for me to talk about this album, if I’m being honest, because I know it’s good. Everything about it just works magnificently, but it’s hard to find the words that do this album justice as virtually every single element is something to enjoy as Man Daitõrgul just pulls it off without any problem whatsoever. “Gosk e’ Vidʒera” is a tremendous experience of the style that I will definitely be crawling back to several times just because there’s so much happening within this album of great originality along with a classy Horna cover that it would just be criminal to not give this record many more spins.
