Chaos Over Cosmos – s/t

The very colorful and dynamic world of progressive metal is something that, for some reason, I need to take in heavy moderation given just how immensely crazy it can get in all of its madness. But, like an addict, I need a good hit of it every now and then and it’s with a pretty quick response to their debut album from not even a year ago that Chaos Over Cosmos has provided prime real estate for me to investigate. Despite being a quick little morsel, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into with this little treat.

It’s hard to bring together so many different things in order to make a prog record such a colorful experience that can actually be enjoyable and not just a blind fury that has no substance whatsoever that could be called enjoyable come to the end of the record. Where some bands may just go headfirst into the world of insanity and try to create some dazzling display that would be murder to try and replicate, Chaos Over Cosmos brings a slightly more contained excitement to the table with their brand new EP that is just a perfect embodiment of why I just keep coming back to prog. With an explorative nature and a sound that feels just as properly crazy but enticing as a very solid record of the style should be, the three tracks that Chaos Over Cosmos brings us here are overflowing with so much character from the powerful vocals that are always fantastic to the instruments that never know when to stop painting an immensely detailed picture to quality that is simply satisfying that all make this eponymous work a sweet treat to eat right up.

Everything about this EP brings so much of what makes prog interesting in the first place for me, and you can just hear the increase in quality with Chaos Over Cosmos from their debut without having to even look for it. Should this little piece be anything to glean from for this band it’s that their growth is visible and they’re far from a band that should be underestimated.
